HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - 10 people are homeless after a fire destroyed one home and damaged another Wednesday night in Salt Lake.
The blaze, which broke out at a home on Likini Street, was first reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. and was under control a little more than twenty minutes later.
Officials say the fire heavily damaged a home and caused moderate damage to another nearby. Five people were displaced in each structure. No injuries were reported but a pet cat died in the fire.
Damages to both homes and its contents are estimated at $510,000.
"They came running out. They was all in shock. I don't know where they went. In the first house that was on fire. The second house, I think there was another 4-5 people, an old lady and a couple young kids, but we got them out", said neighbor Ross Sugahara.
"Everybody was running around, make sure everybody was safe. Everybody was putting water on their roof because the ember was coming and then, couple more few explosions", said neighbor Rose Pintor
A fire investigator will be on scene Thursday to try and determine how the fire started.
