MAKAKILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on the H-1 freeway near the Makakilo off ramp.
According to officials, the incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police say a truck was heading eastbound in the left lane when the 68-year-old driver tried to overtake another car using the shoulder lane.
He then lost control, veered across the freeway and hit a car in the far right lane. The car hit the guard rail and both vehicles crossed the freeway and hit the center median.
The driver of the truck, a Kapolei man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The 34-year-old man and 27-year-old woman in the other car were taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
Investigators believe speed may have been a factor.
