Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL

Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day

The Mayor along with the City's Managing Director and several County Directors are hosting a Junior Achievement Job Shadow day at City Hall. At least eight departments and the City Council will be participating in the job shadow program on February 2, 2012, which happens to be the National day that Junior Achievement orchestrates such events across the Country.

Some of the key messages the department hosts and speakers convey to the students include:

1. EXPOSURE

While the Program Manager tries to match the student/class interest to the department, they may not pursue a career in the field. The goal is simply exposure to the department function and the workplace.

2. WORK READINESS SKILLS

Focus on personal work skills needed to do the job... well!

3. IMPORTANCE OF STAYING IN SCHOOL

Because the target is mainly the under-served student population, they encourage the students to stay in school, graduate from high school and continue their education.
