HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of gunning down a teenager at Ala Moana Beach Park nearly four years ago pleaded guilty Wednesday.
Christopher Alesna, 23, was facing trial for murder. But under a deal with city prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and agreed to a 20-year prison sentence.
Khaynava Phanthanouvong, 18, died after being shot multiple times during a fight at the park. The victim's family members were in the courtroom as the defendant gave up his right to a trial.
Alesna is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
