Water Main Break, Power Outage, Sand Work

POWER OUTAGE KNOCKS OUT TRAFFIC LIGHTS

Crews are working this morning to restore lights that are out in Wilson Tunnel at the top of the Likelike along with the surrounding street lights. Apparently, the outage is tied to an outage that knocked out power in Kalihi last night.

WATER MAIN BREAK

Kainui Drive is closed from Oneawa to Kainalu due to an overnight water main break. No word yet how many customers are affected or how long the Board of Water Supply estimates repairs will take. Taizo will have traffic updates every 10 minutes on Sunrise.

BARGE MOVES IN TO PUMP SAND

Happening today, a barge will be set up offshore in Waikiki. That's a key part of

a 2.3 million dollar sand replenishment project. Once it's in place, thousands of feet of pipes will be attached to it to start pumping back sand onto the beach.

There will be beach closures in the area and a safety corridor around the pipe.

WEATHER NOW: TRADES REPLACE VOG

Trades take over tonight to clear the vog so we can expect a gradual shift today.

The hazy skies will slowly clear for Kauai and Oahu through Friday. Should shape up to be a nice weekend.

SWELL COMING MONDAY

A northwest swell will bring advisory level surf our way by tomorrow. An even bigger swell is due Monday, but Dan says it will likely be too small to run the Eddie. Get your latest surf conditions on our website.

SHIP PASSENGERS OFFERED MONEY

New this morning, the company that owns the capsized cruise ship in Italy is offering 14-thousand-640 dollars to each passenger to compensate them for their lost baggage and other damages. 3,206 people from 61 countries survived the accident. Passengers and crew are free to pursue legal action if they aren't satisfied with the deal.

Today, the teams will work out at a specially constructed field at the Ihilani Resort. Tomorrow, you can catch the players in action during Ohana day at Aloha Stadium. You can see our interviews from their practice at Pearl Harbor-Hickam here.
