HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii gas prices have stabilized compared to the prior week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
The statewide average for regular unleaded on Thursday is $4.09 a gallon, two cents more than a week ago.
Honolulu's average price remained unchanged over the past week at $3.93 a gallon. That price is six cents more than a month ago and 35 cents higher than this time last year.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.25 a gallon, also unchanged from last week, seven cents more than last month and 51 cents higher than this time last year.
Wailuku's average is $4.40 a gallon, two cents more than last week, six cents more than last month and 36 cents higher than on this date last year.
Hawaii continues to have the highest gas prices in the U.S., followed by Alaska with a $3.88 state average and California at $3.72.
How can drivers get the most fuel economy from their vehicle? Here's our tip for this week: "Avoid 'jack-rabbit' starts and accelerate gently," according to AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "Accelerating uses more fuel than any other facet of driving, so imagine there is a raw egg between your right foot and the accelerator pedal. Accelerate gently so as not to break it."
