WAIPAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Former State Senator Ron Menor is making a bid for the City Council seat representing central and leeward Oahu.
He announced Sunday he's entering the race for District 9.
It's currently represented by Councilman Nestor Garcia who is running for the state senate in the next election.
If elected, Menor says he'll fight for district infrastructure improvements and promote economic growth.
"I'm gonna be trying to promote budget efficiency and financial responsibility and make the most of the taxpayer's money because it's really all about trying to get the biggest and best bang for the public dollar and of course not forgetting that it is the public dollar", said Menor.
Menor lost his re-election bid in 2008 after being sentenced to two days in jail for driving while intoxicated with his children in the car.
He blamed a contact lens and an injured foot for his refusal to take part in a field sobriety test.
