KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A U.S. Navy explosives ordnance disposal team has determined that an object found in waters off Kailua Beach is not unexploded ordnance, and posed no danger to the public.

According to a spokeswoman, divers from the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team recovered the item, which was found Friday afternoon by a private citizen. It was in waters 12 to 15 feet deep about 50 yards from Flat Island.

As a precaution, the Coast Guard had issued a safety broadcast notice advising mariners to remain 100 yards clear of the area. Divers recovered the item Saturday morning and took it to Pearl Harbor to determine what it is and how to dispose of it.
