Homeless family needs help leaving abusive situation

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A homeless family that asked us to hide their identity is asking for help to buy plane tickets back home. The single mother with three kids followed her boyfriend and a job out to Hawaii.  But the man became abusive and violent.

Now she's trying to move back to the south where her family and a new job are waiting.  They need $1,800 for the four one way tickets.

"If I had the means to help myself I would, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't ask for the help, it's hard enough to ask.  It would mean maybe saving the life of me and my children, keeping us off the streets, having to sleep in places we wouldn't dream about sleeping ever," said the woman.

The organization Help the Hawaii Homeless along with State Rep. John Mizuno are coordinating the fundraising.  They have helped seven other homeless families return home in the past.
