(HawaiiNewsNow) - From 1979 to 1987 Melanie Ochmann proudly served her country in the United States Air Force. During her military career she proudly admits that she went above and beyond her regular duties.
Melanie was then honorably discharged and took on yet another honorable duty… a full time mom. But when her youngest boy reached kindergarten she moved on to her third career.
"I decided to go into the health care profession." says Melanie
After receiving her Associates degree she became a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Since 2000 she steadily maintained a job for eleven years.
But then, "HMC lays off employees on Christmas Eve."
On Christmas Eve 2011, her last employer, Hawaii Medical Center began laying off their nearly one thousand employees.
Unemployed since, Melanie says it's only a matter of time before the bills will pile up. Melanie also points out that it's not just about the job.
As a therapy assistant her work brings her face to face with people in need.
Melanie hopes an employer will look at her passion and her commitment to serve and say "you're hired."
