MOILIILI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Oahu families are still celebrating the start of 2012.

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i welcomed the new year with its annual Ohana Festival in Mo'ili'ili.

The event featured traditional favorites such as okonomiyaki, mochi pounding demonstrations, and a kimono-wearing contest for children.

"In the past, there were some years where the weather is bad, we would actually lose money and other years, break even, but as times have changed and the economy has gotten bad so we need it as a fundraiser, so this is the first year we've turned it into a fundraiser by having more crafters and food trucks", said Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii President and Executive Director Lenny Andrew.

Andrew says thousands attend the popular event each year.

This is the 21st year the Cultural Center has put on the New Year's celebration.
