HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new north-northwest swell is forecast to bring advisory-level surf to the islands for New Year's Day.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory which will take effect at noon Sunday until6 p.m. Monday for the north and west shores of Kauai, Niihau and Oahu, and the north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui. There is no advisory posted for the Big Island of Hawaii.
Forecasters said surf may rise to 15 to 20 feet along the north and west facing shores of Kauai and the north shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai. West shores of Oahu could rise to 8 to 12 feet.
The Weather Service said surf will increase rapidly Sunday afternoon , peak Sunday night and decline Monday.
