HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Over-the-counter sales of paper savings bonds will end at financial institutions on Dec. 31.
The U.S. Department of Treasury announced the move back in July in hopes of increasing the number of electronic transactions and saving taxpayers millions of dollars.
Series EE and I electronic savings bonds will remain available for purchase on www.treasurydirect.gov.
Anyone holding paper savings bonds can continue to redeem them at financial institutions.
