Hawaii Pacific Health is now recruiting undergraduate students for its 2012 Summer Student Research Program. It gives aspiring Doctors a chance to shadow Hawaii physicians and do research. In the past 25 years, 260 students have taken part. Many have gone on to the nation's best medical schools and come home to practice.
Dr. Jennifer Ping, a Straub Emergency Room Physician is one of the success stories. She says, "I realized how passionate they were about their field and how dedicated they were to their patients. It really inspired me to become a physician. It also inspired me that I wanted to become a physician back here in Hawaii."
Neil Onizuka is another graduate of the program. He's a second year student at the John A. Burns School of Medicine and says, " At the end of the program, we're given the question do we want to become doctors for Hawaii in the future and I think most of us said yes definitely."
To request an application, call Hawai'i Pacific Health Conference Services at 522-3469. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, February 27, 2012. Applicants are encouraged to request a personal interview.
