HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Many of you have helped to make the holidays brighter for those less fortunate, through the "Angel Tree" program with the Salvation Army. Thursday a bunch of kids joined in the effort.
Members of the "Kalanianaole Athletic Club's" winter basketball team were at the Angel Tree at Kahala Mall to pull tags and buy a present for other kids.
It was the idea of the head coach, who would normally receive a gift from the team.
"Instead of chipping in and buying me and the assistant coach a gift, why don't we pull Angel Tree tags, give one to every family, and have them go and buy whatever gifts those people need. And I suggested it to the parents and the parents embraced it, thought it was a great idea," said coach Jude Lampitelli.
Lampitelli says it's a good way to teach kids that there are others whose families are having tough times, and may not be able to buy a basketball for them for the holiday.
