Officials investigating cause of Big Island house fire

WAIKOLOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Fire investigators on the Big Island are trying to figure out what caused a house fire Sunday night.

According to officials, the fire broke at a home on West Makuahine Street in Waikoloa around 8 p.m.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found a fully involved residential structure fire. The blaze started a small brush fire in the open field near the rear of the property.

Officials says gusty winds may have caused the quick spread of the fire.

Other property lost in the fire was a Porsche parked in the garage. A Mercedes parked in the driveway experienced fire damage.

The total loss is estimated at $390,000.
