Investigation opened following Hilo house fire

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that engulfed a house near a Hilo church Thursday night.

According to officials, the fire broke at around 7:30 p.m. at 572 Manono Street.

No one was home when the fire engulfed the two-story wooden structure.

Officials say electrical wires connecting the home to a neighboring house were severed. HELCO crews are working to fix the arching wires.

No injuries were reported.

Damages are estimated at $75,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
