HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of killing another man outside a bar in Kalihi over the weekend made his initial appearance at Honolulu District Court Wednesday.

Tevita Aholelei, 21, is charged with manslaughter.

Investigators say the victim, Solomone Niusini, 26, was punched in the face, fell backwards and hit his head on the pavement outside Da Kine Sports Bar on Kaaahi Street Sunday. He died from blunt head trauma.

Defense attorney Don Wilkerson requested a bail reduction for his client. But prosecutors opposed the move, saying that Aholelei is on probation for felony theft.

The judge agreed with prosecutors and confirmed the bail at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Friday.
