Friends of Norm Chow react to new coaching opportunity

By Chris Tanaka

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Reaction started to pour in from various people as news of Norm Chow accepting the position of head coach of the Hawaii football team began to spread.

"I thought he should have gotten the job 15 years ago..He was not only a good player, but he was a good leader. And you could tell that sports were going to be in his background. I don't necessarily think a guy that's been a great assistant coach makes a good head coach. But I think that in the case of norm, he's been around so many good head coaches, I think it'd be no sweat for him to come in do exactly what he wants to do for the program. "-Longtime friend Pal Eldridge.

"...He's someone from the hanabata days that, experienced all that. growing up there. Norm knows what it is to squeeze five cents out of a penny."- Mark Atuaia, who played under Chow at BYU.

".....For all the local know, now we're excited because we got another local guy coming back in---knows our program, knows our history....and his credentials speak for themselves: coached at Tennessee, USC, BYU, you know, he's been all over in his career so it'll give a lot of guys confidence as far as coming here..." - Luke Ingram, current UH Longsnapper.

Chow could be officially introduced as early as Thursday.
