HONOLULU(HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced today that sophomore guard Shawna-Lei Kuehu will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season due to personal reasons.
"We fully support Shawna and her decision to take the rest of the season off," Takahara-Dias said. "However, there is no sugar-coating that it is a big loss for our team. We will have just have to refocus and move forward."
"I'm going to support my teammates and coaches to the best of my ability for the rest of the year," Kuehu said. "I'm looking forward to returning to the team for the 2012-13 season."
Kuehu, an All-WAC freshmen selection last season, missed games early this season due to injury and started just four of UH's nine games. She was averaging 5.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with 11 assists and a team-high 11 steals. In her short career, Kuehu has averaged 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game with 83 assists, 40 blocks and 61 steals.
