Police: VA Tech gunman acted alone

Blacksburg, VA (HawaiiNewsNow) - State police say the gunman who killed himself at Virginia Tech acted alone in the slaying of campus police officer Deriek Crouse.

Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said at a Thursday news conference that the gunman put his clothes in a backpack and left it behind at a greenhouse on campus.

"We've been able to determine that he ran to the greenhouses where he apparently changed clothes, taking off a pullover top and a wool cap and putting them in a backpack which he then left there at the greenhouses," Geller said.

Investigators are still trying to find out why the gunman ambushed the officer.

Police have identified the gunman but aren't releasing any information until the medical examiner's office makes a positive identification and the next of kin is notified.

Officials confirm the gunman is not a Virginia Tech student.
