Services held in Kaneohe to honor fallen Marines

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Kaneohe Bay (HawaiiNewsNow) - Both 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, honored the lives of two Marines with memorial services this week.

Cpl. Nicholas S. Otto, 23, of Manchester, N.J., died Aug. 10 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Otto joined the Marine Corps in September 2007 as an infantryman, and in 2010 he was assigned to 1/3. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in April in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Ott's memorial service was held at MCBH on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Pfc. Josue Ibarra, 21, of Midland, Texas, died June 19 from wounds received while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Ibarra was a field artilleryman assigned to 1/12. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in April to provide artillery fire support during ongoing counterinsurgency operations.

Both battalions returned home from Afghanistan last month.
