NORTH SHORE, Oahu, (HawaiiNewsNow) - Another incredible day of surfing at the Billabong Pipe Masters on Oahu's North Shore. Surfers described today's conditions as epic, with waves around 8-to-12 feet they were a bit smaller than Thursday.
Another massive crowd turned out to watch as eight surfers moved into Saturday's quarterfinals.
19 year-old John John Florence of Hawaii, who is the current leader on the Vans Triple Crown ratings, scored both the event's highest heat-total of a near perfect 19.10, out of 20, in Round 3 and his second 10-point perfect ride in Round 4.
"That 10 was just a perfect double-up, I just held my line and it was sick," Florence said in a ASP news release. "The waves keep coming in and they're so perfect. It's so fun being out there with three guys and I want to go on every wave." Florence has his work cut out for him as he faces Kelly Slater in the quarterfinals.

Kelly Slater had a challenging day, falling to John John Florence in Round 4, but dropped into some amazing barrels in Round 5.
"I love this event," Slater said in the ASP news release. "Ask everyone on tour and they'll probably say it's their favorite. You get the chance to surf Pipe with a few guys out and have your pick. All young surfers look at it and dream about it. I had a picture on my wall of Pipeline and I thought I'll never catch a wave like that, so to surf it with one guy with priority, it's awesome."
The Pipe Masters next call is at 8 a.m. the 2011 Billabong Pipe Masters Champion may be crowned.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau, and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui, through Saturday.
Forecasters warn that dangerous rip currents will be hazardous to swimmers, and the large shorebreak could create dangerous conditions along the shoreline.
