Memorial service today for Kaneohe-based Marine

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A memorial service will be held today for a Kaneohe-based Marine who was killed in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Josue Ibarra, 21, of Midland, Texas, died June 19 from wounds received while supporting combat operations in Helmand province. His unit, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, was providing artillery fire support in the fight against insurgents.

The service starts at 9 a.m. at Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay.

Two days ago the base held a service for another Kaneohe-based Marine. Cpl. Nicholas S. Ott, 23, of Manchester, N.J., died August 10 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
