HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 100 guests gathered Tuesday as Catholic Charities Hawaii celebrated the completion of its Clarence T. C. Ching Campus with the blessing and dedication of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Hale and the Ulu Center.
Located on the main campus in Makiki, the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Hale will provide short-term affordable housing for those in need and the Ulu Center will be used to enhance the agency's operations.
The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Hale will offer short-term affordable housing to individuals and families who are working toward self-sufficiency but are unable to find or afford permanent housing.
The three-story 8,874 square-foot building includes 12 two-bedroom, one-bathroom units. One of the units has been retrofitted to accommodate wheelchair accessibility. Those who are eligible for services include seniors, the developmentally disabled, single mothers seeking reunification with their children, individuals who have been identified as being at-risk for homelessness, and others who are in need of transitional housing. As part of this program, individuals will gain or regain the financial stability and life skills that will enable them to find permanent housing in the community.
The 1,766-square-foot two-story Ulu Center will be used as a gathering place for the agency and for tenants of the Weinberg Hale. Meeting rooms will be available for tenant meetings and important counseling sessions.
