LEXINGTON, Ky. (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawai'i outside hitter Kanani Danielson and middle hitter Emily Hartong were selected to the 2011 AVCA All-West Region team. The announcement was made Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Danielson and Hartong are now eligible for all-America honors which will be announced at the AVCA Annual Convention. Middle blocker Brittany Hewitt earned honorable mention honors.
This was Danielson's third AVCA all-region selection after earning honorable mention honors as a freshman. Danielson recently became just the third player in WAC history to earn WAC Player of the Year honors three times. In this past Friday's defeat of Colorado State in the NCAA Tournament, she posted her 20th double-double of the season. The Ewa Beach, O'ahu native recorded 22 kills and a career-high 20 digs.
Hartong has been a steady presence all season long, and earns her first AVCA all-region honor. She ranks in the Top 20 nationally in hitting percentage (.378), and last season was named WAC Freshman of the Year.
Hewitt currently has 141 blocks on the season and averages 1.32 blocks per set. Last season she was named to the AVCA All-America third team and was named the CVU.com Blocker of the Year. She recently earned her third all-WAC selection.
