WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man who gave a cigarette to a stranger was stabbed Sunday afternoon.
According to officials, the 28-year-old victim was in the Waianae area heading to work when two men, 25-year-old Steven Smith and a 17 year old, approached him.
Police say the teenager asked for a cigarette and received it from the victim. Smith then demanded money, but the victim refused.
The 17 year old then allegedly began punching the victim in the face while Smith tried to stab him with a knife.
The victim blocked the knife with his hand and was cut. The 17 year old was also cut in the scuffle.
The victim was able to flee to a nearby store and call police.
The suspects fled the scene, but were later arrested for second degree attempted murder and first degree robbery.
