WAIMEA, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities have released the names of a man and the four people police say he stabbed before he was shot and killed by police in Waimea Valley Friday.

Authorities said Shendon Chandler-Taniguchi, 21, stabbed four people with a large knife in Waimea Valley. One of his victims, 68-year-old Edita Padamada, died from her injuries.

According to police, the incident began when Chandler-Taniguchi attacked his 83-year-old grandfather, Anthony Chandler, and then stabbed Padamada.

Chandler-Taniguchi then turned the knife on James Rick, 63, and Julie Bergseid, 50, outside their home, police said.

Investigators said that once police arrived at the Menehune Road address, Chandler-Taniguchi continued his attack and turned on an officer, who then shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
