HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Some residents were left in the dark Tuesday night after power outages were reported in areas across Oahu.

According to the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO), 25,000 customers in the areas of Punchbowl, Kalihi, Waipahu, Hawaii Kai, Alewa Heights and Kalama Valley were affected.

HECO says the outage happened just after 8:30 p.m. when two generating units unexpectedly went offline.

As a result, HECO crews had to shut off power mostly in the Honolulu area.

Power was restored in most areas just before 10 p.m.

Customers experiencing any problems are asked to call HECO's outage reporting line at 548-7961.
