Fire knocks PBS Hawaii off the air

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire that started Friday morning in a studio at Hawaii Public Television (PBS Hawaii) in Manoa flared up again Friday evening. HPD closed Dole St. between Hoonanea St. and University Ave. while firefighters doused some hot spots.

The fire originally started just before 10:50 a.m.

The 28,000-square-foot building is located at the corner of University Avenue and Dole Street.

The building was evacuated and no one was injuried.

One of the studio lights popped triggering the fire that spread into the insulation and air conditioning ducts.

Then around 5 p-m, the fire flared up again. PBS Hawaii hopes it will be back on the air by the end of the weekend. Damage from the fire is estimated at $250,000.
