Local Connection: Never Stop Learning

By Rick Blangiardi

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- We all know you can make good money in construction. When there is construction.

At a busy restaurant in Waikiki, you can make serious money waiting tables. Until the next tourism slump. If you got a job at Aulani, you're sitting pretty.

If you work at Makaha resort, it looks like you're about to be laid off.  Things change - never put all your eggs in one basket. And most importantly - don't stop learning.

This is no longer a world where you can work the same job your whole life. Even if your job is never automated or exported, something else could go wrong. You can't change your DNA. You can't change your upbringing.

What can you do?

You can change what you know - and what you know can help you get a better job - and a better job can possibly help make you a better spouse or parent, and it could even make you happier.

So don't forget, you are what you learn.
