Obama golfs with pal who faced prostitution charge

HONOLULU (AP) - President Barack Obama is golfing in Hawaii with boyhood pal Robert "Bobby" Titcomb who pleaded no contest to soliciting a prostitute earlier this year.

Titcomb was among the president's friends that golfed together at a military course Monday.

White House press secretary Jay Carney says they have been friends since childhood and the president remains loyal to Titcomb as he confronts difficult challenges in his personal life.

Honolulu police arrested Titcomb in April during a prostitution sting. He was fined $500 and a court agreement allowed the conviction to be stricken from his record last month.

Titcomb attended school in Honolulu with Obama in the 1970s. They spend time together home when Obama vacations in the islands.

Titcomb was present when Obama scattered his grandmother's ashes off Oahu in 2008.
