ILWU endorses Mufi Hannemann for Congress

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The International Longshore and Warehouse Union, Local 142, the state's largest private sector union has endorsed Mufi Hannemann for Congress.

In a news release the ILWU Local 142 says, "We need people like Mufi Hannemann who will stand up for the working people. Mufi has done an outstanding job as Mayor of Honolulu and holds the experience, skills and leadership qualities for this office."

In announcing the endorsement, Isaac Fiesta Jr., union president said, "Hannemann has earned the trust and support from labor unions throughout his public service. We will urge our members and retirees to support his candidacy."

City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard has also announced here intend to run for the 2nd Congressional District in 2012.

The ILWU 142 has 20,000 members spread out across the state of Hawaii.
