HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Special high-security zones in and around Waikiki during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference will force the closure of the Waikiki Post Office, impacting mail access and delivery services.
The Waikiki Post Office will be completely closed between 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 and 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13. There will be no retail services or access to P.O. Boxes during this period.
The Waikiki Post Office was already scheduled to be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 due to Veterans Day, a federal holiday. The Post Office's retail lobby will be closed, though P.O. Boxes can still be accessed between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Post Office has announced that because normal mail service will be disrupted by the conference, it will make special arrangements to deliver P.O. Box mail on the holiday.
The Post Office says that while every available effort will be made to provide typical mail delivery services, delivery times on Saturday, Nov. 12 may be impacted by road closures and other traffic issues resulting from the APEC conference.
