No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.9 earthquake off Taiwan

TAIWAN (HawaiiNewsNow) - A major earthquake shook an area northeast of Taiwan, but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.9, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened at 4:59 p.m. Hawaii time about 136 miles west-north-west from Naha, Okinawa, Japan.
