MLB player Kurt Suzuki to host youth baseball clinic

WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Major League Baseball catcher and Wailuku native Kurt Suzuki will partner with All Pono to conduct a Youth Baseball Clinic on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at Iron Maehara Stadium.

Registration forms are being accepted for the first 120 youth, ages 8-13 and the first 100 youth, ages 14-18.

"I am very excited to come home and give back to the kids of Hawaii," said Kurt Suzuki. "The importance of community service is something my parents taught me at an early age and having the opportunity to put on this Clinic is something I am very grateful for."

The Clinic will reinforce the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, base running and catching. While Kurt will be moving from station to station providing instruction and demonstration in each area, other local baseball coaches will be on hand to assist in each group.

Due to the large number and age range of the participants, the Clinic will be split into two flights. Between 9:00am and noon, youth ages 8-13 will participate in a two and a half hour clinic, followed by lunch and a raffle prize giveaway. In the afternoon, youth ages 14-18 will take the field between 1:30pm and 4:00pm, also followed by a light snack and raffle prize giveaway.

All 220 participants will receive a Nike gift bag as a memento of their participation.
