Urgent request for Kauai residents to conserve water

KALAHEO, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai county is asking Kalaheo residents and businesses to conserve water and restrict water consumption to essential uses only.

Officials say an electrical problem at the Kalâheo well site this morning caused the problem. The Department of Water (DOW) pumps were not able to replenish the water supply in the storage tank serving the area.

The DOW crew is working to identify and repair the problem. Water conservation efforts by residents and visitors will reduce the likelihood of a water outage in the area.

Residents are also asked to notify their neighbors of this urgent request and encourage their participation.

Water conservation measures include: refraining from car washing; reducing outdoor irrigation; and use water conservatively and wisely indoors and outdoors.

Essential needs includes: cooking; bathing; and toilet flushing.

For more information, please call the Department of Water at 245-5455 during business hours, 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, or Police Dispatch at 241-1711 after business hours.
