HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gasoline prices dropped in Honolulu and Hilo and remained unchanged in Wailuku according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Honolulu's average price declined over the past week by two cents from $4.06 to $4.04 a gallon, which is nine cents less than a month ago.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.30 a gallon, down four cents from last week, a penny more than last month and 77 cents higher than this time last year.
Wailuku's average is $4.43 a gallon, unchanged from last week, one cent less than last month and 50 cents higher than on this date last year.
Thursday, the statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.18 a gallon, a penny less than a week ago.
The state average continues to lead the nation followed by Alaska at $4.02 and California at $3.84. The current national retail average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.42, two cents less than last week.
High gas prices are weighing on many locals' minds as they plan their holiday shopping lists, according to AAA Hawaii's Third Annual Holiday Shopping Poll released this week. "Economic concerns are making consumers more careful about how they spend their holiday gift budgets," said Diane Peterson, regional manager for AAA Hawaii. "To make it easier for members to take advantage of AAA discounts while shopping, Hawai'i magazine has a savings guide of coupons highlighting discounts with retailers such as Omaha Steaks, MattelShop.com and Gap Outlet."
