Refuse collection and APEC

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Questions regarding refuse collection and disposal from November 7 through 13.

1. If we live in an area away from Waikiki and the Convention Center, will our refuse collection be affected?

Refuse collection service in secured areas around the APEC conference activities may be disrupted due to limited access for collection trucks. For other areas of the island, particularly east of Ward Avenue, service may be delayed due to traffic congestion. Outlying areas of the island should be unaffected, except for the day when the landfill and convenience centers are closed. Please leave your refuse at curbside. It will be collected either on your scheduled collection day or as soon as possible on the day(s) following your collection day.

2. Will Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill be open?

Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will receive waste during this period; however, it will be closed all day Sunday, November 13th. Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will reopen Monday, November 14th at 7 a.m.

H-POWER will receive waste during this period.  The last load accepted will be Saturday, November 12th, before 2:30 p.m.  H-POWER will reopen Monday, November 14th, at 6:30 a.m.

4. Will City convenience centers be open?

City convenience centers will be open during this period during normal scheduled hours.  On Sunday, November 13th, all convenience centers will be closed.  We anticipate possible delays in emptying our large containers during this period  due to security and traffic issues.  Convenience centers may experience early closures if containers are full.  The last load accepted, if container space is available, will be Saturday, November 12th before 6 p.m.  Convenience centers will reopen Monday, November 14th at 7 a.m. and accept waste as long as container space is available.

5. Will City transfer stations be open?

Transfer stations will be open during this period during normal scheduled hours.  On Sunday, November 13th, all transfer stations will be closed.  Keehi, Kapaa, and Kawailoa Transfer Stations will accept last loads before 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12th, as long as capacity is available  All transfer stations will reopen Monday, November 14th at 7 a.m.
