Hot Shots Traffic Safety video contest winners

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - They may not be old enough to drive, but three 8th grade students from Kapolei Middle School already know the importance of safe and responsible driving.

Serena del Banco and Nanea Nomura are two of three students that won first place in the Hot Shots Traffic Safety Video Contest - Middle School Division. Their video, titled "Distractions Pop Up Anywhere," compares driving distractions to Post-It Notes.

Middle School

  • 1st Place: Kapolei Middle – Distractions Pop up Anywhere
  • 2nd Place: King Intermediate – Don't Walk & Text or You'll be Next
  • 3rd Place: Ewa Makai Middle – Tale of Two Texts

High School

  • 1st Place: Kapaa High – Dear Ilona
  • 2nd Place: Mid Pacific – Dead End
  • 3rd Place: Kauai High - What Happens in a Second

The top Middle and High Schools receive $1,500 along with the airing of their videos as public service announcements. Second and third place schools receive $1,000 and $500 cash prizes.

All of the winning videos will be posted on the Farmers Hawaii Website at www.myfarmershawaii.com/hotshots.
