Penn loses, announces retirement from MMA

LAS VEGAS – Nick Diaz claimed a unanimous win over BJ Penn and perhaps the career of "The Prodigy" at UFC 137, Saturday night.

Minutes after losing to Diaz, the Hilo native announced in the middle of the octagon that he was calling it a career.

"It's probably the last time that you'll see me in here, I want to perform at the top level" Penn added, "I've got a daughter and another on the way, I don't want to go home looking like this, I'm done."

If Penn, 32, is sincere about hanging it up, he'll leave MMA with a 16-8-2 record in a pro career that spans a decade and in which, he won two UFC titles, once as a welterweight and once as a lightweight.
