HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – He walked in and asked for a trim. After that, things are a little fuzzy.
All you know is he used to have a coif and now friends are calling him chrome dome.
Let's cut to the chase – those discount shops are chop sloppy but he won't get anywhere near a place that even sounds like a salon.
Lei Chic Senior Editor Christi Young and Dan Cooke take us for a sneak peek into a new spot that's a little less hairy.
Mojo Barbershop will open on Bethel Street November 4 for First Friday. It offers customers a chance to get a shave and a haircut in retro surroundings but with modern perks.
Husband-and-wife team Matt Leo and Marian Lee modeled their new business after Leo's favorite barbershop in their former home of Portland, Oregon. When the two moved back home to the islands they missed the man-friendly spot and decided to create their own version in downtown Honolulu.
Mojo Barbershop is full of classic touches. A custom made barbershop pole greets people on the street. Walking in, they'll find a barbershop chair Leo and Lee rescued from a Maui shop and restored, vintage issues of Surfer and Playboy, and an entire board covered in old black-and-white photos the two hunted down in stores across Hawaii. Customers taking advantage of the straight razor shaves, detox facial, or private hand-and-foot detailing sessions (man-speak for manicure) will also be able to watch the latest games on various flat screen televisions, relax in the leather La-Z-Boy, and soon they'll be able to do it with an ice-cold beer in hand.
Now that's cutting edge.
Mojo Barbershop is at 1157 Bethel St. Learn more about it on Mojo's website.
