Montana fighter jets extend stay in Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Montana fighter jets will be patrolling Hawaii skies for longer than expected.

Reports from the Great Falls Tribune say the 120th Fighter Wing of the Montana Air National Guard will extend its combat alert mission through Sept. 2012.

Six F-15s and their crews were originally scheduled to return in January.

The Montana pilots are ready 24 hours a day to intercept suspicious aircraft and are playing a supporting role while the Hawaii Air National Guard transitions to the F-22 Raptor.
