(HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Department is famous for its smooth, civil handling of demonstrators when the International Monetary Fund met in Hawaii. Now it's preparing to show its skill and aloha again. Two units will be deployed when demonstrators protest at APEC. One will be ready to control the crowd and if necessary make arrests. The other will be IN the crowd to make sure their rights are protected.

In this morning's business picture, First Hawaiian Bank reports a summer profit of $50 million, Bank of Hawaii posts a summer profit of $43 million, Nalo Greens founder Dean Okimoto is elected president of the Hawaii Farm Bureau after being ousted one year ago, and Sunshine Topping becomes director of recruitment for Hawaiian Airlines after resigning recently as human resources director for the Abercrombie administration.
