Mixed bag for Hawaii gasoline prices

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - During the past week, local gas prices declined in some areas and ticked up in other areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Thursday, the statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.22 a gallon, a penny more than a week ago.

Honolulu's average price declined over the past week by one cent from $4.09 to $4.08 a gallon. Honolulu's price is identical to a month ago and 71 cents higher than this time last year.

In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.33 a gallon, up three cents from last week, a nickel more than last month and 82 cents higher than this time last year.

Wailuku's average is $4.43 a gallon, down a penny from last week, four cents more than last month and 58 cents higher than on this date last year.

Hawaii's state average continues to lead the nation today at $4.22 a gallon followed by Alaska at $4.04 and California at $3.86.

The current national retail average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.47.
