HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Makaha Resort has stopped taking bookings beyond October, and employees have been summoned to a meeting Thursday.
Employees believe the resort is closing but the Canadian interests that own the resort have made no announcement, preferring to give details to the workers first, so the duration and nature of the closure was not immediately clear.
The hotel website Thursday morning had an "X" over every calendar field beyond October, and mousing over the last day of October produced a message that the day was for checkouts only.
The Makaha Resort has often had lower occupancy ratings than other Oahu properties, despite attractive grounds and a good reputation for the aloha of its employees. Rival hoteliers have said the property is showing its age, and renovations could improve its fortunes.
