Coast Guard suspends search for missing fisherman

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Coast Guard crews suspended its search for a fisherman who was reported missing since Saturday.

Kon Wai Young, 53, failed to return from his fishing trip on Saturday. His truck and boat trailer were found at Maunalua Bay. He had been fishing on his 19-foot green and white boat.

The Coast Guard's search area covered 18,536 square miles, an area three times the size of the Big Island.

Coast Guard assets involved in the search included crews aboard the Coast Guard Cutters Ahi and Kiska, HC-130 Hercules airplanes and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters. A Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew conducted a search of the south coast of Molokai while transiting to Maui on an unrelated trip.

The Honolulu Fire Department also assisted in the search
