Hawaii charities got a big boost today, thanks to Foodland

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Foodland and it's customers raised $1.8 million for the community. Customers donated the highest ever, to the Give Aloha Program 2011.

A Give Aloha ceremony at Foodland Farms Aina Haina today announced that $1.838 million will be given to Hawaii's non-profit organizations this year as a part of its Give Aloha Program. Nearly $50,000 per day from all 31 Foodland and Sack N Save stores were combined to support their favorite charities.

This year's donations added to the highest amount of $17.7 million since the program began in 1999. Customers donated more than $1.5 million to their favorite non-profit organizations, then Foodland doubled that amount with a total of $306,000.

Together, a total of $1,838,496.56 was raised for 645 non-profit organizations in Hawaii.
