PEARL CITY (HawaiiNewsNow) - At the Verizon store at the Pearl Highlands Center Friday morning, people started lining up early to get their hands on the new iPhone 4S.

Student, Jeremy Lozano, was one of the first.  "I'm pretty excited. I just want to open it already," he said.

Jeremy and his friend, Michael, showed up around 5:15 a.m., while others like William Jones, took advantage of an opportunity after sunrise.

"I always wanted to try the iPhone and figured it'd be on my way to work. So I thought I'd see how long the line is and figured, if it was short, I'd jump on in," said Jones. "So, I did."

Verizon store's in Hawaii opened up an hour early to take advantage of their newest customers after getting a chance to sell Apple products earlier this Spring.

"The pre-orders definitely helped alleviate some of the traffic," said one Verizon employee. "But I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of people coming in," he added.

Reina Hiers and her husband, Charles, are going home with two of the new iPhones. Her favorite feature, is the new "Siri" application.

"Its going to be my personal secretary," said Hiers, who has twin girls.

Siri is a state-of-the-art, voice activated "intelligent assistant," according to Apple Inc.'s website. It allows the smartphone to understand not only what you say, but what you mean. Siri allows the iPhone 4S to text what you say, following your verbal command.

Verizon Store Manager Robin Coon said Siri offers customers a lot of advantages. Besides verbally searching directions, restaurants, or calling/texting, it'll even answer basic questions for you and make sure that you don't forget things.

"It has a lot of great search options, as well as a lot of calendar reminders. You can ask it to remind you about something. It will create a calendar appointment for you and you can confirm it," said Coon.

The iPhone 4S has a faster duel core processor and new operating system, called the iOS-5.

The phones range from $200 - $400 with a better global range that previous devices. It also wirelessly syncs up all your apple devices and even offers free access to "iCloud" for more storage space.

But for many, the new 8-megapixel camera and HD video are the big draw.

"My wife and four kids, we always forget the digital camera," said Neil Alexander, who's buying the family's first iPhone today.

The whiz bang gadget is one of the last devices upon which the late Apple co-founder left his mark.

When this reporter asked Siri, "Who is Steve Jobs?" It replied, "Checking on that for you. O.K. Here it goes," said the device.

Then it quickly displayed, in it's own format, the biographical information and picture of the man who helped change the way the world communicates, Mr. Steve Jobs.
