Red Cross Hero: Wesley Pratt

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Wesley Pratt is a firefighter with the Honolulu Fire Department.

On June 3, 2011, several HFD units responded to a building fire in Haleiwa. The firefighters quickly got the fire under control and Wesley and another firefighter were in the building moving paint cans and fuel containers, basically securing the structure.

One of his fellow firefighters was electrocuted and fell unconscious to the ground.

"Comradery is very tight and each firefighter is trained and conditioned to watch out for fellow firefighters," says Capt. Gary Lum. "Everybody has each other's back and they work together."

Firefighter Pratt immediately notified the other responders that someone was down and pulled his colleague out of the building to safety. That's despite the fact that he was being shocked several times himself.

"This is an exceptional performance of duties by Firefighter Pratt," says Capt. Lum. "The entire department is very proud of him."

Once outside, others rushed to assist the downed firefighter and medical treatment was given.

Wesley Pratt put his life on the line to save his friend and is the Red Cross In the Line of Duty Hero.
